I think the “hit-makers” in life are the people that live earnestly and seek God in all circumstances. Whether provision is incredible and vast or if ends just squeak by and meet, I think when we worry less about those details and focus on what has been given today, just today, He can work in us to live lives and sing of a joy that draws people in. How many times have you heard a terrible song and turned the station or pressed next?

When Jesus began talking to the woman at the well (John 4:4–26), he searched for common ground rather than condemning her. As a result, she not only made peace with God, she also brought her friends and family into the presence of Jesus. We see from this example that our friendship with nonbelievers requires that we understand the difference between loving them and loving their ways.

It’s like a Where’s Waldo when fall hits. Area codes I didn’t know existed start pouring into my phone from friends across the country changing phones, or numbers I’ve lost. The sheer excitement of seeing numbers I haven’t seen since May is physically exhausting, let alone catching up on months of life experiences.

I was the most intolerant person that God created. I was considered the ultimate “gay basher” and could lash a person who struggled with a same-sex attraction to small pieces with my mouth. I laughed at them. One Friday I sat in the back room of Shoney’s in a men’s Bible Study and heard a testimony [...]

He says "go deeper and search for my heart." As much as you think you might run out of air, having the faith to reach the bottom is where He tests us. "Do I go back to the top and keep living this half life, or do I REALLY commit to the life I chose?"

I was driving home on I-65 from Brentwood to Hendersonville and was coming up on the merger of I-65, I-40, and I-24 where traffic comes to a grinding halt. I noticed an incredibly beautiful 18-wheeler coming up beside me. I never pay attention to cars or trucks but try to “survive” the chaos. However, this truck [...]

IT HAS BEEN A FEW MONTHS NOW, but after thirty years of playing music full-time, and after twenty plus years of singing in churches and other venues, I decided it was time to stop. I agonized in prayer and concluded that it was time to set music aside. Being published in 2005 (TO LOVE IS [...]

In my younger and dumber days I would have volunteered to go with him and stone them to death like the religious folks were going to do with the woman caught in adultery. Jesus showed up and began writing in the sand. Suddenly, the men started leaving and beginning with the oldest of the group.

The physical crave. In my experience before sin, it’s more than just a matter of choosing right or wrong, a simple yes or no. Sin can wrap itself around our souls with its nicotine and tar, can engulf the desires of our hearts and make addiction a real, living, physical ache. James tells us in chapter one, verses fourteen and fifteen, “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin...”
