This song, done originally by “The Band” may be one of my earliest musical memories. I am a big fan of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and fell in love with OCMS a few years ago. I hope you enjoy their version.

My Fragile Ego and Why Spongebob is Better Than the News – Jason Elkins

Strangely in the same week, I had two people tell me that they loved my heart and I had contributed to their life in a positive way, but I certainly didn’t obsess over THEIR statements, so why on EARTH would something like an ‘un-subscription notice’ bother me so much?

Mentors and Marathons – Jason Elkins

Over the last few years, I have developed some great mentors. Some of them are the authors for Transparent, some are family members, and others have just showed up, seemingly out of nowhere, to breathe truthful advice into my life. (Thank you by the way). A month or so ago, I reached out to [...]

Words of Wisdom From my Hippy Sister – Jason Elkins

Around 1972, in a successful attempt to move out of Detroit, our respective parents bought a house in the country together for $4000, moved in together and split the $60 per month house payment. I was a baby at the time, and had an older brother, and then immediately had another brother and sister! We lived there for almost 5 years.

This band is Fleet Foxes. I love the harmonies and their sound. From Wikipedia (Must be true!) Fleet Foxes is a five-piece Seattle-based band signed to Sub Pop and Bella Union. The band came to prominence in 2008 with the release of their second EP, Sun Giant, and their debut full length album Fleet Foxes. Both Sun Giant and their eponymous debut album received much critical praise and reviewers often noted their use of refined lyrics and vocal harmonies. The quintet describes its music as "baroque harmonic pop jams".

Are You Living Above the Line? And Other Bedtime Questions – Jason Elkins

I went for a ride with my 9 year old son the other night. I was excited to hear how his first full day of school went, and he was more than excited to tell me.  He got the teacher he wanted (blessing number one) and had a good friend in his class (blessing [...]

“Even if Not” – Video of a New Song by Dave Pettigrew

Dave Pettigrew is a super-talented songwriter and performer.  He lives in New Jersey and his last cd was full of great songs with catchy hooks! (I reviewed it here). He shared a video of a song he JUST wrote for a service last weekend, and it really made an impact on me.  I asked him [...]

Washed by the Water is a sort of redemption song about the Louisiana flooding... I have adapted the meaning to my life... Let's face it, sometimes the levee breaks... It reminds me to just pray and get up one more time. (Music starts at 1:32).

Peaceful Legacy of a Cantankerous Soul – Jason Elkins

My grandfather passed away a few weeks ago. He was my mother’s father and was 88 years old. My mom is one of my favorite people, and the day he died, we went for a drive and I listened as she shared some stories. They weren’t extremely close.
