The Summer Breeze – Kianna Elkins (Age 11)

I clear all the thoughts out of my mind. I start to hear the wind whistling through the trees, and the crickets chirping as they hop through the grass.

As it calms me I start to hear the crows chirping and talking about what they will have for dinner tonight. As I start to walk around, the wind flows through my hair. I see dogs playing on the other side of the street, barking with all their breath they had in them.

As I go around to the pool is see dragon flies flying over the top, skimming it with their feet. As the clouds move, the sun comes out to dry up all the rain from earlier today. I see grasshoppers hopping through the grass. I go around to the front yard.

I come to the end of the driveway, and I see cats at the window sill. I say good bye to the birds and insects, and the cats and dogs. I go inside with the most amazing feeling I have ever felt in my life. It is the feeling of calmness.

I shut the door and feel more relieved than I ever have, on an incredibly hot summer day.
