Dave Pettigrew is a super-talented songwriter and performer. He lives in New Jersey and his last cd was full of great songs with catchy hooks! (I reviewed it here).
He shared a video of a song he JUST wrote for a service last weekend, and it really made an impact on me. I asked him to elaborate on how the song came to life, and he sent me this e-mail:
From Dave:
I am now the interim worship leader at Liquid Church in Morristown, New Jersey. Tim Lucas, the lead pastor has been preaching on the book of Habbakuk over the past 3 weeks. Basically the the message is, where is God during the bad times, during the dips in our lives, when we feel like He isn’t there.
The song “Even if Not” was a response to week 3 of the series. It’s all about “defiant worship”, worship that happens even when we can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
No matter what, God will always prevail and I will worship Him even if He doesn’t come through and save the day, even if it seems like the entire world is crashing down, I will continue to worship Him… Because He is my rock and my salvation, He is God, faithful and true until the end.
Tim wrote a lyric that was pretty close to what you see here, I tweaked it a bit and then added the melody and the music. The result is what you see on the video.
People have been responding tremendously to the song and the series.
Most people are either:
In a dip
Have been in a dip
Or are going to be in a dip sometime in their life.
Most of us will have multiple dips over the course of our lives. God is there in every dip, faith becomes stronger as you trust God through the dips and as He sees you through the hard times…
Dave

All I can think of is Jeremiah 29 verse 11…For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. The problem for most of us we don’t listen, we don’t pray, we don’t open our eyes to what God is doing. It is not always going to be our way…so when something doesn’t seem right or happen the way we desire do we turn away from God or ‘even if not’ today we should praise our God! His plans will be revealed and we will prosper according to him!

Dave looks right at home in his new surroundings. Great song with a solid anthem to sing while standing in the rain.
