“Cultural Icons” – C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S – Mike Cowart Sr.

The death of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson on the same day have sent shock waves through our culture and especially Baby Boomers who have been the “invincible generation”. For some reason, we’ve thought we would live forever.

All of us grieve for these two families in their losses.

In reality what is the impact of these two icons? Michael Jackson gave us the moonwalk and some great music. Farrah was definitely my favorite angel.

However, as the last few hours have revealed, their lives are very much like us common folk. They have both had great suffering. Michael’s estate is much less that one would imagine, due to all the lawsuits and legal expenses. Farrah’s son will be released from prison long enough to attend her memorial service.

In addition to being cultural icons, they are also icons of ancient truth. “In this world you will have sorrow and tribulation.” (John 16:33).

Death is no respector of persons- “It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27
