I’ve just come back from a dental appointment and had some major work done. My first question was “where is the gas?” I sat down in the chair and immediately was masked, and the funny gas began flowing.
I was “aware, but unaware, and didn’t care”!
The dentist came in and gave me the numbing shot. His assistant came back and forth to check on me, but I was in ‘La La Land”. I was aware of their coming and going but unaware and really didn’t care.
After “sobering up” I headed home and realized that what I had just experienced happens every Sunday. Folks show up at church—wearing gas masks.
We greet each other with a big smile and say, “Doing Fine!”
We are aware of the person that we sit beside, but unaware of their pain and basically don’t care.
I think we’re the same kind of church as Laodicea. Jesus said to them, “”I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, ‘I’m rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone,’ oblivious that in fact you’re a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless.” Rev 3:20 The Message
Let’s sober up!
