We’ve just had dinner at Chili’s. All the waiters and waitresses had on shirts with a slogan that intrigued me. The slogan was “Put a little salt in your character!” They are promoting “Margarita Madness” to coincide with March Madness.
The goal is to fill their restaurants with college basketball fans that eat a ton of salty chips and salsa and drink many margaritas-thus improving profits dramatically.
When Jesus finished the Sermon on the Mount, he said, “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth.” Matt 5:13 (The Message). Salt is a preservative, and my grandfather killed hogs every fall and covered the meat with large amounts of salt and placed the meat in a “smoke house.” Salt is a healing agent. My mom made me gargle with warm salt water as a remedy for a sore throat. It worked! Salt always makes an impact and is never neutral! If you don’t believe me, pour salt on your favorite piece of furniture over night or sprinkle salt on your front lawn. Your favorite piece of furniture will be ruined, and your grass will be dead.
This is exactly what Jesus meant when He finished the last part of Matt. 5:13. We are to be people of impact! He said, “If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.” Matt 5:13 (The Message)
God speaks to me in the most weird manner and places. In the midst of “Margarita Madness”, He said, “Add more salt to your character!”

I love how God speaks to me in any and all situations. He defies any box that we try to fit Him in!

I agree. We cannot just continue living without fulfilling our main purpose. to add taste to this world.
