There is much being written about the legacy of George W. Bush, and all Presidents are concerned as to how historians will record their legacy. The content of his legacy will mostly contain subjects such as the war in Iraq, the economy, his appointment of Supreme Court judges along with other actions.
What will be the legacy of his words?
I’m not sure that Bill Clinton realized that his words would have such a profound effect when he said, “I did not have sex with that woman”. Due to the power of the office, his words sanctioned oral sex as not being a sexual act. Within a year, USA Today featured a headline story regarding oral sex parties among junior high students.
How will President Bush’s comments regarding the Bible impact our culture?
In an interview with ABC the week of December 8 he was asked whether the Bible was literally true, Mr Bush replied: “Probably not. No, I’m not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it.” He stated “the important lesson is ‘God sent a son,’” he said.
President Clinton and President Bush are not the only ones who will leave a legacy with their actions and words. You and I are planting the seeds of our legacy every day.
David the Psalmist and King committed terrible sins, and his family suffered horrible consequences. However, in the New Testament David is called “a man after God’s own heart” , and his legacy is summed up with, “David served God’s purposes in his generation.” (Acts 13:32,36)
Aren’t you glad that a legacy can be redeemed!
