A year of KBCU Saturday night is coming to a close and what a year it was. Hundreds of great Christian songs played and many introduced on KBCU Saturday night. INDIEHEAVEN has become the main source of finding new great Christian independent tunes. So I decided I’d look back with you at some of the highlights.

Here are some great artists for you to check out. Also you can get an idea of some of the songs played on KBCU Saturday night.

First let’s start with a couple of groups that disbanded this year. Too bad because their music left its mark on this Saturday night radio show. One is Jacob Blue, with band with leader David Write.  They were just getting our attention and then they were no more.  They left us with a great song though called Trust in The Lord!

Another act KATH AND 9 FEET TALL decided to call it quits. This group actually was one my favorites of 2007. They had a song from last year called THREADBARE.  THEY had a SONG of this year NO STRINGS ATTACHED as well, and I wish they never called it quits.  Maybe they will do a reunion cd at some point?

Next let’s go to a label called CREATIVE SOUL. I know these artists are independent. But yes they are on a label. (I am still trying to understand that concept). CREATIVE SOUL produced multiple artists that ended up on my radio show.  These artists became KBCU ‘regular rotation  songs.  Check out STEPHEN BAUTISTA and his album “ABANDON”.  CRAIG WHITTAKER has a great CD with “GIVEAWAY”, and BELINDA JANE slayed me with a hymn “GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS.” You can’t forget BECKY CAREY with YOU GOT JOY. Let me tell you one of my favorite cds of the year MATT PITZL debut cd with a great song COME MEET MY KING. There are other CREATIVE SOUL artists and songs for you to check out as well.

A record was broke as KBCU played the 9th song from the same artist and same cd. This artist even sang that song at the Crystal Cathedral. Check out Sean Smith with CALLED BECAUSE I CAN,

Ever wonder what ever happened to great artists like RICK CUA or MARGARET BECKER. They joined INDIEHEAVEN. Listen to RICK CUA with I DO LOVE YOU or MARGARET BECKER with COMING UP FOR AIR. They both still have it. Wow.

Each year INDIEHEAVEN announces their MOMENTUM AWARDS. Those winners from this year got their airplay on KBCU Saturday night. See why DONNA KAY won for best cd with CHANCE OF AN AFTER LIFE TIME.  The male vocalist of the year was BILL PETTY. Man can he sing like the song THANK YOU FOR THE CROSS. I’ll mention female vocalist KRISTYN LEIGH (CREATIVE SOUL artist too) with IN JESUS NAME what a beautiful song. MILE 7 showed us why they won with AFTERGLOW. TRANSPARENT CHRISTIAN MAGAZINE here has highlighted many INDIEHEAVEN artists. Now check out their great songs by people like MITCH MCVICKER with WOUNDED ONE. BRAD REYNOLDS did a great remake of THERE IS A FRIEND. A group that did very well with 2 KBCU’s number 1’s SCARLET SNOW with TURNING THIS AROUND. MARK CABLE going acoustic with WHAT HAVE I DONE?  KERRI CROCKER singing it out with BRAND NEW and NORMAN LEE with the KBCU single SAVE ME. I can not forget DAVID PETTIGREW with one of the most used words in the media this year CHANGE.  CHRISTOPHER AMES gave us great love songs like SEND ANGELS TONIGHT. Thank you TRANSPARENT for spotlighting such talent.

Instrumentals were played on KBCU too. Christian jazz hit us on Saturday nights too. CHRIS LUCAS reminded us that DAVID DANCED. Mr. Smooth DREW DAVIDSEN took the hymn BE THOU MY VISION to 2008 with VISION QUEST. DELLA stopped by the studio as we played THE ENFOLDING BEAUTIFUL STILL.

Many great Praise and Worship songs were heard through out this great year. Some should be sung in church, like Gabriel with AMAZING GOD. The Group JOURNEY HOME  knows how to write them. Sing along with YOU ARE ENOUGH.

NATHAN CLARKE GEORGE performing I WILL REJOICE. You know PHYLIS MODARELLI sings YOU ARE GOD beautifully. BROKEN VESSELS song HERE’S MY LIFE is a dedication song to be sung for sure. You may know the song You are Good.  Shellie Jennings does a wonderful job of it.  (Best beginning of any song).

I wish I could let you know about all the great INDIEHEAVEN artists and songs but that would take a book. “Hmm JASON… Never mind. “
