“Does your life suck” was the subject of a recent spam message that I received. I did not click on the website, but the name of the site address appeared to contain all the solutions to all my problems.
I am extremely embarrassed to confess that a few years ago I felt that “my life sucked.” I am amazed at how prevalent this “feeling” is among Christ followers. I had totally lost sight and belief in the fact that “abundant life” was available to me 24/7!
I’ve just heard Phil Sorentino speak. He has every reason to claim “my life sucks”. However, for the previous 35 years, he has been a humor consultant and makes a very comfortable living by providing inspiring and motivational speeches. He even publishes the “Enjoyment Report” at www.humorconusltants.com.
Phil says, “Wherever you are in life, someone has had it worse and made it, and someone in life has had it better and blown it!”
The key component is my choice. Will my circumstances make me bitter or make me better? An eagle chooses to soar directly into the winds of the storm as the eagle knows the winds of the storm provide the most lift.
After Paul’s conversion, he spent most of his time ship-wrecked, beaten, and in prison. He said, “We are hard pressed on every side but not crushed. We are perplexed but not in despair. We are persecuted but not forsaken. We are knocked down but not destroyed. Therefore, we do not lose heart, for our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far out weighs them all. So, we fix our eyes on not what is seen but on what is unseen; for what is seen is temporal and what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:9-10, 16-18
Does your life suck? If so, Read Psalm 13 and realize you are not alone! Make sure you notice the intersection where the moans turn to praise!
Psalm 13 A David Psalm
Long enough, God— you’ve ignored me long enough.
I’ve looked at the back of your head
long enough. Long enough
I’ve carried this ton of trouble,
lived with a stomach full of pain.
Long enough my arrogant enemies
have looked down their noses at me.Take a good look at me, God, my God;
I want to look life in the eye,
So no enemy can get the best of me
or laugh when I fall on my face.I’ve thrown myself headlong into your arms—
I’m celebrating your rescue.
I’m singing at the top of my lungs,
I’m so full of answered prayers.
Mike
