What makes a James Taylor concert a cherished event for me? (I’ve seen him 3 times). It’s his acoustic sound and great song writing. I am able to turn off the world and lose myself in the moment. When a Christian artist writes songs and plays them acoustic, there’s the added bonus of turning your mind towards Christ. I like to think I’m helping others with this process when I spin cd’s in the control room of KBCU 88.1 FM.
Tonight I’m working the graveyard shift at my ‘real job’. My solace is a new cd that is reminding me of those James Taylor moments, and I’m also getting uplifted. This gentle and positive sound is from Christian Independent artist Mark Cable. The cd is void of back ground vocals, violins and drums…void of everything but Mark and his acoustic guitar. He recently won a Momentum award for his perseverance in his music ministry, and after hearing this cd, I would love to see him live at a church or coffee shop somewhere.
All of me, all of me
Lord Jesus I give you all of me
Just because, just because
You gave your all for me.
Mark’s writing style reminds me of great story writers like Dan Fogelberg. Many of his songs remind me of the joys of life…Turn off the news and put on Mark’s cd for a lift!
It’s a snow day from heaven
And that’s a snow day for free
abandon your agenda without penalty
Let’s shovel off the sidewalk
And if time is right
As quickly as we end this task
We’ll start a snowball fight
The fireplace is roaring
There’s cocoa on the stove
And all agree that life is sweet
When there’s no place else to go.
My favorite song at the moment is What Have I Done.
What have I done today?
What have I done to say?
What have I done to show the way I love you?
What have I done to keep my vow?
What have I done to ease the doubt?
What have I done to show you I love you?
Mark’s new CD is called Just Mark Cable, and I highly recommend finding a copy so you can get lost in these great songs!

About 4 years ago, my child and I walked into church; it was different than usual. There was a guy up on the stage with a guitar. As he played song after song, I felt exhilarated and uplifted. This was Mark Cable.
Now, I have all his available CD’s. Each one of them can help you through your day. They are best listened to with some focus.
His 2008 CD, Just Mark Cable, is his best compilation yet. How do I know? It took hundreds of listen-to’s, to determine that.
Mark can’t guarantee to make your day better. “Just Mark Cable” can.

Walt,
One of my goals is to see Mark live. I’ll bet it was a great show.

I enjoy Mark’s music a lot and have since I was in Jr. High (early 80’s). But I also appreciate his easy going personality and sense of humor. You could check out my blog to see some of that humor. I see this was written a year ago. I hope you have had the chance to see Mark in person. You will be glad you did.
