All of us have been greatly influenced by a teacher. For me, it was Coach Bell, my baseball coach and Ms. Hardaway, my chorus teacher. They both played major roles in challenging me to do my best and pushed me beyond my limits. Their words of encouragement will never be forgotten.
During the last twenty-two years I’ve watched another teacher challenge, motivate, love, and encourage nearly five hundred children. She has provided the same thing to those children’s children.
Frequently, a young adult will walk up and say, “Ms. Cowart, you were my favorite teacher!”
You gave snacks to children who had no money. You gathered furniture for a family who moved to town with nothing except the clothes on their back. You initiated the collection of funds to help a colleague in trouble.
Jesus said, “Come blessed of my father, into the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your home; naked and you clothed me; sick, and in prison, and you visited me.” Matthew 25:34-36
You were a refuge to hurting children and you made an impact instead of an impression.
“Your retirement is well deserved, and you will be missed greatly!”

Great story. We may not know the difference we make in someone’s life until years later if at all. The amazing thing is the ripple effect from life to life. It can affect so many lives from one simple act of kindness. We may be the only Jesus a child may know.
