The April 17 edition of USA Today features several articles on Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the USA. Thousands lined the streets of Washington DC to get a glimpse of him in his “Popemobile“. A lady from Clearwater, FL took her four daughters to DC to see the pope. She said, “Just his visual presence, and bringing all this together is the living Christ. Our country needs to see this, that there is love in the world. And my daughters need to see that. The world needs to see the love that Jesus wants us to share.”
Another man said, “When the pope leaves on the 17th, he’s not going to actually leave here. He’s going to leave some energy behind, that Christ is alive!”
Needless to say, the sight of the pope impacts the lives of all who see him, and he is perceived as an ambassador for Christ.
However, did you know that all of us who are “new creations in Christ” have been given the same assignment as the pope? In 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 Paul says,
Does our world see the love that Jesus want us to share?
Do folks around us feel the “energy” of His presence in us?
None of us will impact thousands of lives like the pope does when he comes to visit. We impact one at a time.
A little boy was walking along the beach during low tide, throwing starfish in the ocean. A man approached him and told him that he would never be able to save all the starfish. The little boy threw a starfish back in the water and said, “I made a difference for that one!”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
